CNAME record

A CNAME record, also known as a canonical name record, is a type of DNS record that works similarly to an A record, where instead of using an IP address, we use the name of another domain, allowing for the creation of an alias.

Examples of uses for a CNAME record include:

  • redirecting a subdomain to an external service,
  • registering the same domain in multiple countries and redirecting them to a primary domain such as “.com”,
  • redirecting multiple domains that you own to a primary domain.
